Isso \u00e9 impressionante, n\u00e3o \u00e9?<\/p><p>Mas n\u00e3o \u00e9 s\u00f3 isso. Esses rios tamb\u00e9m levam nutrientes para o mar, que s\u00e3o uma esp\u00e9cie de \u201calimento\u201d essencial para organismos microsc\u00f3picos, como as algas. Esses seres fazem o que chamamos de produ\u00e7\u00e3o prim\u00e1ria, ou seja, transformam a luz do sol em energia \u2013 e isso alimenta toda a cadeia alimentar marinha. Estima-se que os rios amaz\u00f4nicos contribuam com cerca de 25% dessa produ\u00e7\u00e3o de energia nas \u00e1reas costeiras!<\/p><p>Essa import\u00e2ncia vem do grande volume de nutrientes (subst\u00e2ncias que ajudam no crescimento de organismos) que os rios levam para o mar. Ela forma \u201cilhas\u201d flutuantes sobre o oceano. Essas algas n\u00e3o crescem no fundo do mar e, apesar de serem naturais, quando crescem demais, podem prejudicar a vida marinha, o turismo e a pesca. A causa desse crescimento exagerado ainda n\u00e3o \u00e9 totalmente entendida, mas acredita-se que as mudan\u00e7as na temperatura dos oceanos estejam influenciando esse fen\u00f4meno.<\/p><p>Para investigar isso, o pesquisador Rafael Aquino, do Laborat\u00f3rio de Pesquisa e Monitoramento Ambiental Marinho (LAPMAR), realizou um estudo entre 2018 e 2019. Ele analisou 82 pontos ao longo da PCA durante diferentes per\u00edodos do ano: chuvoso, seco e per\u00edodos intermedi\u00e1rios. J\u00e1 no per\u00edodo chuvoso, a \u00e1gua ficou mais turva e a acidez aumentou. A quantidade de <em>clorofila a<\/em> (um indicador de presen\u00e7a de algas) variou ao longo do ano. O am\u00f4nio foi o nutriente mais encontrado, especialmente na \u00e9poca de chuvas, quando o volume de \u00e1gua do rio Amazonas e estu\u00e1rio do rio Par\u00e1 aumenta.<\/p><p>E a\u00ed vem o ponto chave: esse aumento no am\u00f4nio coincidiu com a maior presen\u00e7a de <em>Sargassum<\/em>, o que indica que os nutrientes que v\u00eam dos rios podem estar ajudando essas algas a crescerem demais. Mas a a\u00e7\u00e3o humana tamb\u00e9m tem influ\u00eancia nesse processo: o estudo indicou que o desmatamento, o uso exagerado de fertilizantes na agricultura e o esgoto sem tratamento jogado nos rios podem causar aumento dos nutrientes, causando a chamada eutrofiza\u00e7\u00e3o \u2013 quando h\u00e1 tanto nutriente que as algas crescem de forma descontrolada, prejudicando todo o ecossistema.<\/p><p>Portanto, entender como os rios amaz\u00f4nicos influenciam o oceano \u00e9 essencial.
